Kathleen Gathercoal

Whether I have been painting, teaching, or conducting research, I have always been engaged in illuminating creation. For many years I have created medieval-style illumination and calligraphy documents, using paper or vellum, gouache, and gold. More recently I have taken up watercolors. Using both watercolors and gouache has allowed me to explore the forms and beauty of Oregon birds. I am grateful to photographers (including Leslie Schweitzer), who have ventured into the field to observe and photograph these birds and have allowed me to use their images as my initial inspiration.
